Mycoplasmosis is an important disease in both meat-type chickens and layers. Infection with Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG) and Mycoplasma Synoviae (MS) causes chronic respiratory disease, leading to economic losses from meat condemnation and from a drop in egg production.
MG and MS infections are difficult to control because disease spreads rapidly within a flock and infected birds remain carriers for life. Vertical transmission through the egg is a primary source of disease. Breeding flocks may remain uninfected for a long period of time and then suddenly break with infection.
This document will explain how to use the IDEXX MG/MS Ab Test to screen for Mycoplasma Gallisepticum and Mycoplasma Synoviae.
