Chicken breeding stock is usually free of Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) and Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) because the stock is monitored regularly by serological and/or molecular testing. However, given the serious consequences of infection with either of the pathogens, customers sometimes test samples of recently received chicks to confirm the negative status of the flock.
Field observations by IDEXX customers indicated a decrease in the specificity of the IDEXX MG/MS Ab Test, especially for samples from birds that had been transported over longer periods of time (up to 72 hours).
This document will present the results from IDEXX's trial to investigate these observations under controlled conditions.
